Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure that reconstructs or repairs the vagina. Childbirth i.e vaginal delivery stretches and loosens your vaginal muscles. Aging can also cause your vagina to lose its tightness. This can cause uncomfortable symptoms and affect sexual function.

Vaginoplasty can tighten and repair these areas, addressing issues like looseness or incontinence.

What is Vaginal Tightening?

You will be placed under general anesthesia. The surgery normally takes about one hour. Dr Tehmina will make small incisions inside the vaginal area to join the loose muscles and tighten them. The vaginal opening will also be tightened. All incisions are then closed with dissolvable threads. This ensures that our vaginal tightening patients do not have to attend the clinic to have sutures removed at a later date.

The Best Candidates for Vaginal Tightening

The best vaginoplasty candidates are women who have found that intercourse has become less pleasureable due to stretching of their vaginal muscles and their quality of life is also being affected. Women who are currently pregnant or who are trying to get pregnant are not good candidates for this surgery.

Vaginal Tightening Recovery

Following your surgery you will need to gently wash the area with soap and water regularly. There will be slight swelling and bruising for 2-4 weeks. Some pain may be present for approximately one week following the surgery, but there is generally very little pain associated with this operation. A prescription for pain medication and antibiotics is given to all of our patients prior to their surgery to assist with the pain and to prevent any infection.

You should refrain from any vaginal insertion for 6 weeks, including intercourse and tampons. This will allow the incisions to heal completely and prevent any reopening. You should also avoid heavy lifting and exerting too greatly while defecating as this may negatively affect your healing. The sutures will dissolve and come out on their own.

You should be able to return to work one week after surgery. Avoid heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for 4-6 weeks.

In case of external stitches, Apply ice packs to the vulvar area to reduce swelling and pain.

Icing recommendations can vary depending on the specific surgery, but here’s a general guideline:

  • First 24 to 48 hours: This is typically the most crucial period for icing. You might ice for 15-20 minutes at a time, and repeat every 20 minutes or two hours,or as often as possible.
  • After 48 hours: You can usually reduce the frequency to 4 times a day, maintaining 15-20 minute sessions.
  • Duration: It’s important not to exceed recommended times.  Generally, doctors recommend using ice for several days or even weeks, until swelling and pain subside.
  • After 48 hours, take sitz baths to help relieve pain and promote healing. Use sitz baths (sit in water that covers your vulvar area) a few times a day. Keep the incision site clean and dry.
  • Wear loose-fitting clothing made from breathable fabrics.

Vaginal Tightening Risks & Complications

Every operation has risks and potential complications. Fortunately, the vast majority of patients who undergo vaginoplasty have no problems with their surgery and are extremely happy with their results. Risks are rare but when they do occur additional medications or even surgery may be required. Such risks include infection, bleeding, scarring, pain with intercourse, and deformity. The surgery can result in intercourse that is painful. Most of our vaginal tightening patients, however, never experience these risks.

Please keep in mind that we will fix any problem or treat any complication for free. If you have an unsatisfactory result and we think additional surgery will help solve the issue, we will perform the surgery for free.
